Shortly after 2 p.m. Monday, June 17, Mesquite police responded to a shooting call in the parking lot of an apartment complex in the 1600 block of Hickory Tree Road.

A male victim was transported to an area hospital where he was treated for a gunshot wound to the leg, according to a report released by the Mesquite Police Department. The male suspect, armed with a handgun, fled and barricaded himself in a nearby apartment.

The Mesquite Police SWAT team and hostage negotiators arrived and attempted to make contact with the suspect. When contact could not be established, the SWAT team entered the apartment and located the suspect, taking him into custody without incident.

The shooting apparently stemmed from an argument between the two men over an alleged theft, the news release said.
