Music on the green

The inaugural Music on the Green Celebrity Invitational will take place May 19 at Gleneagles Country Club in Plano. The event is the only Dallas-area golf tournament benefiting the Kraddick Foundation and its signature program, Kidd’s Kids.

Family, friends, co-workers and fans of the late Kidd Kraddick are steadfast in their determination to honor his legacy by keeping the extraordinary work of his beloved foundation alive.

On May 19, several stars will join dozens of golfers for the inaugural Music on the Green Celebrity Invitational, the only Dallas-area golf tournament benefiting the Kraddick Foundation and its signature program, Kidd’s Kids. The event, to be held at Gleneagles Country Club in Plano, will combine three of the legendary DJ’s lifelong passions: music, golf and kids.

“Nothing was more important to my father than his family, but Kidd’s Kids was his enduring passion,” said daughter Caroline Cradick. “He obviously built his career around pop music, and there’s nothing he enjoyed more than playing a round of golf with his buddies. In that sense, the Music on the Green Invitational covers all the bases, so I know he’d be happy that we found a way to create something like this to raise money for the foundation.”

Several local celebrities and friends of Kidd Kraddick have been invited to serve on the honorary host committee and to play in the inaugural tournament. Local musical artists and DJs are being recruited to entertain the golfers as they proceed through the golf course.

“The Invitational will be unlike most charity tournaments because of the unique integration of the live musical acts,” said Derrick Brown, executive director of the Kraddick Foundation. “While our overriding mission is to raise much-needed funds for Kidd’s Kids, we also want everyone to have a great time. After all, nobody enjoyed having fun more than Kidd.”

Corporate sponsors are being solicited to support the event while entertaining guests with a round of world-class golf paired with a celebrity. A limited number of foursomes are also available to the public, starting at $5,000.

“I’m asking all my friends and colleagues in the North Texas business community to join me in supporting this one-of-a-kind tribute to the memory of Kidd Kraddick,” said Robert “Dr. Bob” Birenbaum, owner of Eye Pieces – Plano and the driving force behind the creation of the tournament. “Kidd devoted 20 years of his life to bringing smiles to thousands of special kids. Now it’s our turn to carry on his legacy. I’m in, and I hope others who loved and respected Kidd will lend their support as well.”

In addition to Eye Pieces – Plano, sponsors of the first-annual tournament include Southwest Airlines, Champion Management Group, YEA Networks and Courtney Burgin Graphic Design.

Net proceeds of the Music on the Green Invitational will be donated to the Kraddick Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 1991 by the legendary morning show personality. Known best for the Kidd’s Kids program, the foundation was established with the hope of making a difference in the lives of terminally and chronically ill children. Each year, Kidd's Kids offers five amazing days of suspended reality to children whose lives have been ravaged by disease, with an all-expenses paid dream vacation to Walt Disney World for the kids and their immediate family.

Another foundation program, the Glamour Squad, is designed to help bring a bit of glam, beauty and smiles to young girls during their hospital stay and after they leave.
