Watters Creek at Montgomery Farms is looking for participatory musicians of any age, genre and skill level to perform at the center on Make Music Day, June 21. Anyone interested in participating must contact the Watters Creek guest services office at 972-747-8000 or via e-mail atWattersCreekInfo@trademarkproperty.com. Musicians must provide their name/band name, time preference and a one-two sentence description about their music.
A cool event happening during Make Music Day is the Mass Appeal, which brings together musicians of all levels and ages to make music in large, single-instrument groups. Mass Appeal gatherings are a unique opportunity for players to meet up with others and jam.
Watters Creek will host a Guitar Mass Appeal event on the Green from 6:30–7 p.m. on June 21. The Guitar Mass Appeal event requires no pre-registration. From 5–6:15 p.m. a free beginner guitar lesson will be held and is open to anyone who would like to attend. Complimentary song books will be distributed to the first 150 participants with a guitar. The book contains six pages introducing the guitar and six songs with chord changes that can be used for the Mass Appeal Event. The 2017 Guitar Mass Appeal songs include “Blue Moon,” “Margaritaville,” “I Saw Her Standing There,” “I Can See Clearly Now,” “New York, New York,” and “Over the Rainbow.”
Make Music Day is not a typical music festival. It is open to anyone who wants to participate. Every kind of musician — young and old, amateur and professional, of every musical persuasion — is invited to sign up through Watters Creek guest services to share their music with the public. It is a free celebration of music around the world, which was launched in 1982 in France as the Fête de la Musique. Today, it is held on the same day (June 21) in more than 750 cities in 120 countries.
“This is our first year participating as part of the Make Music Alliance and we are very excited. There are many talented musicians in our community, and I hope they will sign up for a timeslot to share their musical talents with us,” said Debra Martinez, marketing director for Watters Creek at Montgomery Farms. “There’s no application to complete, no try-out to participate in; just sign up with us and come out to Watters Creek at your designated time to participate. This should be a lot of fun for all of our guests.”
Make Music Day is not a paid musical performance; however, musicians may sell CDs and accept tips. Musicians interested in participating must contact the Watters Creek guest services office at 972-747-8000 or via email at WattersCreekInfo@trademarkproperty.com to schedule a specific time and location at Watters Creek.
