The Allen City Council on Tuesday adopted the budget and tax rate for the 2019-20 fiscal year, beginning Oct. 1.
The tax rate will be $.489 per $100 of taxable value, down from $.498 last year. The city’s taxable value increased by 6.37 percent, thanks to new improvements and reappraisals of existing property.
The FY2020 budget, totaling 226.01 million – allows for the addition of six full-time employees and one part-time intern – two police, one fire, one finance, one engineering and one for water and sewer fund.
Also included in the General Fund budget is funding for a new Traffic Management Center, new financial accounting software and partial funding for several new police vehicles.
The bulk of the city’s General Fund (42.6%) will be spent on public safety. Culture and recreation makes up 27.6% of the General Fund budget. General government (18.6%), public works (6.3%), community development (3.3%) and transfers out (1.6%) represent the remainder.
