What does your business offer that is unique compared to similar businesses?

What makes Tokyo Joe’s so different than other fast-casual Asian restaurants is the healthy approach to its menu. Food is prepared either by grilling or steaming, never fried or cooked in greasy woks. That approach to cooking, in addition to using the highest-quality and freshest ingredients, is a cornerstone to our healthy dining commitment. This is what has made us so popular in Colorado: fueling our customers’ active and healthy lifestyles.

A popular signature bowl includes the MoJOE Bowl with chicken, egg, pineapple, carrots, red onion and red pepper in a sweet and spicy sauce, or guests can build their own bowl with a choice of fresh ingredients including proteins (chicken, steak, salmon or tofu), “carbs” (white rice, brown rice or udon noodles), and a variety of flavorful sauces and steamed veggies.

The menu will also offer a few items unique to Texas including the Surf & Turf Signature Bowl, which includes steak and shrimp sautéed with red peppers, mushrooms, snap peas and garnished with green onion. Teriyaki or Spicy-aki can be added. There will also be a Texas Roll on the menu, which includes grilled steak, shrimp, red onion, cilantro, avocado, cucumber and green dragon sauce. Healthy eating is important at Tokyo Joe’s – diners will find a multitude of tasty options that appease just about any dietary need.

What is the most important part of your job on a daily basis?

The most important part of my job is taking care of our guests – providing great service, great, fresh, healthy dishes and a great atmosphere.  We have a 20-year history during which we’ve built a foundation of trust with our guests. It’s important that we continue that tradition here in McKinney.

What are your keys to success?

Our No. 1 key to success is our people. We’re fortunate to have fantastic team members that are the secret to the success of our culture and our concept. We do our best to continuously look at ways to recognize and reward those on our team that work within the restaurants. We believe that we have the best people within the industry working as partners in our company.

What surprises you most about your job?

I’m often surprised when we hire someone who’s young and new to the hospitality industry as an hourly team member, and then they develop into amazing leaders within our organization. We have a great group of people that have built Tokyo Joe’s into the concept it is today. Most of the leadership started out as hourly team members and have evolved into the leadership of the organization

Tell us something most people wouldn't know about your company.

Most people believe that we’re a large company that started in California. Tokyo Joe’s is a small company, founded by a former professional downhill skier, that proudly originated in Denver, Colo.
