Kacie’s Run presented a $50,000 check to the Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD All-Stars Special Olympics at a recent school board meeting. Kacie’s Run is a charitable 5K and one mile family fun-run held every spring. The event was held in March this year and more than 1,000 participated.
According to the organization, the mission is to create an opportunity for the C-FB ISD community, its students and staff to experience C-FB ISD Special Olympics Athletes through their involvement as volunteers, sponsors and participants. The event promotes acceptance, encouragement and empowerment through service to others.
The run honors the legacy of service of Kacie Brekhus, who died in a traffic accident in October 2003 while a freshman at The University of Texas at Austin. As an R. L. Turner High School freshman, Brekhus became involved in the Torch Run, benefiting Special Olympics.
Kacie’s Run tells the story of a student who was empowered to lead, whose death inspired others to give of themselves and a legacy which continues today in the hearts of students whose mission remains the same.
The next event will be held on March 21, 2020.
