An important new charge in the fight against hunger is being launched by Metrocrest Services. Raising $100,000 from the community will allow the nonprofit to achieve a full matching grant of $100,000 from the Metrocrest Hospital Authority. The “foodraising” initiative was announced March 23 at the Metrocrest Services 12th Annual Keyholder Breakfast, where over $75,000 was raised to kick off this drive.

“Hunger lives right here in our community,” said Charles Heath, CEO of Metrocrest Hospital Authority. “The healthcare community is dedicated to caring for the health and well-being of our citizens, and we know that fighting hunger is an important first step.

"Wellness begins with everyday access to nutritious food. We believe in the mission of Metrocrest Services and the capability of its staff and volunteers to help us make a difference in the fight against food insecurity. Our hope is that the community will join us to turn this pledge into food for those who need it most.”

In 2016, the Metrocrest Services food pantry provided 549,190 meals to the community -- a 28 percent increase from the previous year. So far in 2017, the nonprofit has already seen a 17 percent increase in need. More than 200 families rely on Metrocrest Services food pantry for their groceries each week. While the need is increasing, current donations are not able to keep pace with the demand.

“The good news is that we have a caring partner here in our community, Metrocrest Hospital Authority, that is willing to come alongside all of us to make a difference,” Tracy Eubanks, CEO of Metrocrest Services, said. “We appreciate their trust in us, and are asking the community to help us honor their pledge and make the full potential of this momentous ‘foodraising’ pledge a reality. People we serve in our community greatly need our help.”

Metrocrest Hospital Authority will match every dollar donated, up to $100,000. Contributing is easy: Simply visit www.metrocrestservices.org and donate online (use “Food Pantry” under Fund Designation), or mail your gift to Metrocrest Services at 13801 Hutton Drive, Suite 150, Farmers Branch, Texas 75234 and write “Pantry” in the check memo.
