On the heels of a nine-run victory in Game 1 of its regional quarterfinal series, the Celina baseball team did one better on Friday against Life Waxahachie.
The Bobcats secured the series sweep following a 14-4 victory in Game 2 from Denton Ryan, scoring at least one run across all six innings played before the run rule was invoked.
Celina tallied 11 hits in the win, with at least one from eight different batters. Junior Major Brignon went 3-of-5 with an RBI, while seniors RJ Ruais and Noah Bentley tallied three RBIs apiece in the win.
The Bobcats' aggression reflected on the base paths with eight steals, including three for senior Sean Rabe.
Ruais earned the win on the mound, tossing four innings of one-run ball, limiting Life to just one hit with seven strikeouts and five walks before giving way to junior Mason Herring and freshman Colby Brittain to close out the game.
The win sends Celina to the regional semifinals for the second consecutive season—the first time the program has logged back-to-back four-round playoff runs since 2007. The Bobcats will draw either Texarkana Pleasant Grove or Lindale next week at a time and place to be determined.
