Tell us a little bit about yourself.
I am Lauren Sutton Rodriguez, I am the aquatics manager at the CORE. I’ve worked for the city for nearly 5 years. It’s been an excited several months for me. I got married in September 2018 to my wonderful husband. I just graduated with my Masters in Parks and Recreation Management this Spring. I have two boxers, Leyla and Oxford that are my world. Random fact: I was born in England and lived there for 9 years before moving to the great state, Texas.
What led you to work with Coppell Parks and Recreation?
It was all about my network, and staying connected with those who are just as passionate as me about recreation. A former work colleague of mine had contacted me regarding an aquatic vacancy at the CORE. They shared how wonderful it was to work at Coppell, and the rest was history. Never looked back since.
What's your favorite aquatic program at the CORE and why?
My favorite program is sensory swim. We launched it during the summer of 2018. It’s my favorite program because it truly embodies inclusiveness by offering guests who may not feel comfortable visiting our facility during peak hours the opportunity to swim and enjoy themselves.
What does a typical day look like for you?
Everyday is different. That’s part of the reason why I love aquatics and recreation. Each day brings a new challenge that I look forward to solving. Whether it’s assisting a family with their pool birthday party or helping a child learn how to swim for the first time, everyday brings a new experience.
What do you find rewarding about your job?
The experiences we help create both for our guests and staff. Guests make memories at the CORE that last a lifetime thanks to our facility and services. On the other hand regarding our staff, this might be their first real job, and it’s an opportunity for me to help develop the start of their professional careers.
In your opinion, what benefits can people get from aquatic activities like swimming, paddle boarding etc.?
Safety and well being. Having the ability to swim and be comfortable in the water opens up a new world of activities. As a result, it enables a new channel of well-being for those seeking to partake in new activities like competitive swimming, paddle boarding or water aerobics.
What's your favorite summer activity?
Soaking up the sun. One thing I enjoy about my job is it allows me to be indoors and outdoors most days especially in the summer. It’s a breath of fresh air (literally) when you’re able to have staff meetings outside under the beautiful Texas sky.
What do like to do in your free time?
Spend time with my family and travel. I have two boxers and a tortoise that I’m infatuated with. Oh and my husband is a nice addition too.
What's your favorite movie?
"Pirates of the Caribbean" Saga
Where would you like to see yourself in the next five years?
Continuing to follow my passion working for the city of Coppell to make an impact toward the community I love.
