Wendy Raney spent over 23 years in executive positions in the telecommunications industry before making the transition to hospice work. In 2013, she opened her first Homewatch CareGivers location in Plano and eventually added another location in Dallas. Raney has been helping the communities of Collin, Irving, Richardson, Denton and Dallas Counties by allowing residents to recuperate or grow old within the comfort of their own homes and alleviating the stress of caregiving on immediate family and friends.
How long have you lived in Frisco?
My husband and I moved to Frisco in 2013, but have lived in the Dallas area for 15 years.
What did you do before starting with HomeWatch CareGivers?
I worked in executive management for telecommunications companies for over 25 years specializing in areas of contract negotiations and customer service.
Why did you choose to open HomeWatch CareGivers?
After leaving my corporate career, I really wanted to own my own business and wanted to be able to impact lives in a positive and meaningful way. I had a volunteer background with hospice and really enjoyed helping families at such a private and critical time in their lives. When the opportunity presented itself with Homewatch CareGivers I immediately felt drawn to it. It would allow me to continue to work with amazing families on hospice and those who just need a little extra help to remain independent, like my 106-year-old grandmother and so many other seniors or individuals with disabilities. I was excited to be a part of a company where I could impact the quality standards and ensure that my clients were treated with the dignity they deserved and exemplary customer service. It truly seemed like the best of both worlds and an answer to my prayers.
What does an average day of work look like?
I am very involved in all aspects of my business as it has grown over the past four years. My typical day is spent checking in with my team on any special needs for the day, meeting with potential new families answering questions concerning care needs, making sure my quality standards are being exceeded with our clients and that our staff of caregivers needs are being met. I also spend a lot of time educating the local community and health care companies on our home care capabilities.
What is your favorite part of your job?
My absolute favorite part of my job is meeting with our new and existing families. We work with such amazing families and I am always so grateful to be able to spend time with each of them getting to know how we can better meet their needs and positively impact the quality of their lives.
If you could have coffee with someone famous, who would it be?
Ellen DeGeneres – because I think the world needs a little more laughter and the ability to “Be Kind To One Another.”
What are some of your hobbies?
I enjoy traveling, adventure, dining, reading and going to the movies.
If you were to pick any other career, what would it be?
I have had a very robust career in telecommunications and learned a lot, but I am finally living my dream job. There isn’t anything I would rather do.
Where is your dream vacation destination?
I have many on my bucket list – right now it would be Greece.
