The Frisco Wakeland High School baseball team is one win away from reaching the UIL Class 5 High School Baseball State Tournament after a thrilling last inning, last at-bat 2-1 victory over Forney on Friday night at Riders Field.
The Wolverines hold a 1-0 lead in the best-of-3 Class 5A Region II Final over Forney, as the two teams will meet again at 7:30 p.m. Friday night this time at Rockwall-Heath High School. If Forney wins Friday, the deciding third game will be played on Saturday.
Frisco Wakeland (24-13) tied the game in the bottom of the seventh inning when Addison Brown, who tried to call time during his at-bat but the umpire did not grant it, was able to compose himself and get two hands back on the bat in time to poke a hit down the third base line to plate the tying run with two outs.
Then, Dylan Snead came to the plate with a chance to win the game. Snead hammered a shot nearly to the wall between the centerfielder and leftfielder to easily score the winning run and send the Wolverine players from the dugout scampering onto the field for a mass celebration.
Deuce Yaksick picked up the win for the Wolverines on the mound.Â
