The Star in Frisco

Gene and Jerry Jones speak to business owners during the ribbon cutting of The Star Entertainment District.

As the finishing touches have been added around The Star in Frisco, so too have the shopping and dining options. To celebrate the grand opening of The Star’s Entertainment District, three days of entertainment, specials, prizes and more will provide family fun throughout the weekend.

Thursday’s concert featuring Texas country artist Pat Green will kick things off at 7:30 p.m. in front of the Ford Center, and events will continue through Sunday, including a free Dallas Cowboys football academy, Frisco ISD student specials, performances and an Easter service from Prestonwood Baptist Church. Former Dallas Cowboys quarterback and CBS Sports analyst Tony Romo will be the special guest at the Easter service, which begins at 5 p.m. Saturday in the Tostitos Championship Plaza.

With the backdrop of Huddle, a sculpture by artist Tom Friedman, Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones and Frisco Mayor Jeff Cheney were joined by members of the Jones family to cut the ribbon on the Entertainment District.

“The reason that the Dallas Cowboys chose Frisco is because we had all the tools in place,” Cheney said.

He said the opening of The Star is the start of realizing the vision to bring destination dining to Frisco and creating the unique gathering place for everyone in the family.

“The new term in Frisco has become, when people are calling their friends saying we’re going to meet for dinner, it’s ‘let’s meet at The Star,’” he said. “That’s what all this was about.”

The “voice of the Cowboys” Brad Sham, who introduced Jones and Cheney, said the Jones family was committed to bringing the complex to Frisco, and Stephen Jones, Charlotte Jones Anderson and Jerry Jones Jr. are credited with convincing their father and mother, Gene, of the idea to create The Star, which began as a base of operations and grew into the destination it is now.

“If you want customers to feel good, spend some serious money on your establishment and they’ll know you care about them, and they will reward you,” Jones said.
