Two Frisco sisters died Saturday following a hit-and-run crash in the Central Texas city of Kyle.
Hays County Justice of the Peace Beth Smith said the sisters were identified as 18-year-old Hayden Weissman and Payton Weissman, 16. Frisco ISD officials confirmed the victims were students at Wakeland High School.
Smith said in addition to the sisters, there were three others in the car – father Mitchell Weissman, a younger sister and a friend. She said they were transported to an area hospital, but their conditions are unknown.
Smith said Macario Hernandez, 61, was the driver of a Dodge truck that crashed into the victims’ Honda sedan at the intersection of Windy Hill Road and the Interstate 35 access road. She said Hernandez fled the scene after the crash but was later arrested.
He is charged with two counts of accident involving death and three counts of accident involving injury. She said more charges could come after toxicology reports are complete. According to county records, Hernandez has been arrested twice in Hays County for driving while intoxicated, once in 2003 and once in 2010.
Smith said Hernandez is in jail with bond set at $250,000.
FISD officials said counselors will be on hand at Wakeland on Tuesday. Students were out of school Monday for an in-service day.
