While there are a couple of loose ends that need to be tied up, much of the 9-5A drama was settled on the field on Tuesday.
In a showdown of district leaders, Frisco (11-1-1, 34 points) secured the outright district championship and the top seed in the playoffs with a 3-0 victory over Wakeland (9-3-1, 28).
Lexi Lee scored a pair of goals and assisted on another, Kat Campbell had a goal and Ariana Anderson stepped up with some huge saves in net to preserve the shutout.
The Wolverines now find themselves in a tie for second place with Reedy (9-3-1, 28) after the Lions battled Creekview (4-7-2, 14) to a scoreless draw.
Lone Star (7-4-2, 23) secured the fourth and final playoff spot, eliminating The Colony (6-6-1, 19) from the chase with a 4-2 victory.
Frisco knows it will be the No. seed and Lone Star will be fourth, but the second and third seeds are still up for determination going into Friday’s regular season finale.
Reedy has a tough challenge going on the road to play the Raccoons, while the Wolverines are also away as they take on The Colony.
The 9-5A boys championship was also claimed on Tuesday as Lone Star (10-1-2, 32) picked up a 2-0 victory over The Colony (4-9-0, 12).
Salim Chavez had a goal and an assist, Bartek Zabek scored, Amine Azizi set up a score and keeper Matt Trouy made six big saves in goal
That result, coupled with Frisco’s (7-3-3, 24) 2-1 win over Wakeland (8-2-3, 27), assured the Rangers of the 9-5A title and the top seed in the playoffs.
The Raccoons’ victory, meanwhile, moved them to within three points of the Wolverines, as Diego Pepi scored twice and that was the difference.
Reedy (6-4-3, 21) wrapped up the fourth and final playoff berth after it claimed a 3-0 win over Creekview.
The regular season will wrap up on Friday with Lone Star closing out its slate on the road at R.L. Turner. Frisco hosts Reedy in a tune-up for both, Wakeland travels to play at The Colony and Newman Smith and Creekview square off in their season finales.
