There's no shortage of noteworthy performances turned in by student-athletes around the area. Each week, Star Local Media's sports staff will recognize five student-athletes from their respective coverage areas as part of its 5-Star Spotlight.
Here are a few athletes from sports reporter Devin Hasson's Frisco coverage area who have turned in standout moments over the past week.
Lexi Lee, Frisco girls soccerÂ
The Raccoons took another big step toward the 9-5A championship on Friday, and as she has done all season long, Lee played a starring role.Â
In a low-scoring affair against The Colony last Friday, Lee accounted for both of the team’s goals as Frisco was able to pull out a 2-0 victory to remain in sole possession of first place.Â
Jacob Culpepper, Heritage boys soccer
The Coyotes secured their first district championship since 2013 and Culpepper has been one of the players leading the charge to history.Â
Culpepper recorded a hat trick in a 5-1 victory over Emerson last Tuesday and then assisted on a key goal in the 3-0 shutout of Memorial on Friday.
Omar Solorzano, Heritage boys soccerÂ
The Coyotes continued one of the best seasons in program history last week with a pair of solid victories and Solorzano was one of the key reasons.Â
The junior scored twice in a 5-1 win over Lebanon Trail last Tuesday and added a pair of goals later in the week with the 3-0 victory against Memorial.Â
Leon Horner, Memorial boys basketballÂ
The Warriors saved their best basketball for the right time of the season as they advanced to the regional tournament for the second straight year.Â
Horner recorded 21 points in a 68-58 win over district champion Liberty in the quarterfinals on Tuesday and then had a team-high 17 points as Memorial dropped a narrow 48-43 decision in overtime to Lancaster in the regional semifinals.Â
Keyera Roseby, Liberty girls basketball
Roseby shined on the state’s biggest stage in helping the Redhawks capture the Class 5A state championship. Â
Roseby poured in 28 points in a 62-51 victory over San Antonio Wagner in the semifinals on Thursday and again led the team with 21 points in the 57-52 championship win against Lubbock Cooper on Saturday as she was named the tournament’s most valuable player.Â
