Denton County Farm Heritage Day coming soon

Join us for the third annual Denton County Farm Heritage Day on Saturday at the Denton County Historical Park.

Antique tractor displays by the Denton Antique Tractor Club provide educational fun for all ages along with the blacksmithing demonstrations from members of the North Texas Blacksmith Association. Multi-era displays, crafts and even a kids’ tractor pull are planned along with booths representing Denton County’s A&M AgriLife Extension Service and the Denton County Master Gardener Association.

Celebrate Cinco de Mayo in Denton

From 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday, the annual Cinco de Mayo Celebration in Denton will commemorate the historic battle of Puebla with a parade, food, jewelry, crafts, music and more at the Denton Quakertown Park.

A parade begins at 10 a.m. from the Texas Woman’s University parking lot at the corner of Locus and Oakland streets to Elm Street and then the Courthouse Square, around Quakertown Park and ending at the Civic Center parking lot.

Festivities begin at 11:30 a.m. with a proclamation followed by vendor booths, children’s arts and crafts and entertainment featuring local schools, Latino bands and the Little Miss Cinco de Mayo pageant.

Aubrey to celebrate First Christian Church centennial

First Christian Church in Aubrey is planning a centennial celebration from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on May 19.

The Aubrey Historical Society is organizing the event honoring the 100th anniversary of when it was rebuilt on June 1, 1919. The original wooden church was destroyed by a 1918 cyclone.

Keep Aubrey Beautiful’s Music in the Park Series begins

The Keep Aubrey Beautiful’s Music in the Park Series will feature Summer Dean on May 18 at the Aubrey Festival Grounds at 301 S. Main St.

Be sure to mark your calendars for the third Saturday in June and July to bring a blanket or lawn chair and enjoy the free concerts.

Movie in the Park continues in May

The monthly Movie in the Park in Pilot Point continues on May 31 at Old City Park.

The movie, “A Dog’s Way Home,” is shown free at 120 Division Street with pre-movie activities beginning at 7 p.m.

Pilot Point celebrity waiter night to benefit chamber

A Celebrity Waiter Night to benefit the Pilot Point Chamber of Commerce’s new chamber building fund is set for 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. on May 5 at Nick’s Italian Restaurant, 1340 U.S. 377.

Register for annual Pilot Point chamber golf tournament

The 22nd annual Pilot Point Chamber of Commerce Golf Tournament is slated for June 7 at The Bridges at 2400 Fred Couples Drive in Gunter.

The registration deadline is May 31 for this year’s tournament. The $125 per person fee covers green and cart fees, a putting contest, lunch, goodie bag and the awards presentation. Additional information is available at pilotpoint.org.

Corinth Fish N’ Fun set for May 4

The City of Corinth is planning its annual Fish N’ Fun event from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. on May 4 at Meadowview Park.

Children ages 5 to 13 are invited to enjoy the opportunity to learn about fishing, get a t-shirt (while supplies last) and have free donuts and orange juice.

Trophies will be presented to first through third place winners.

Regional road and bridge updates

FM 720 North - In May, the contractor will construct concrete sidewalks, lay asphalt, install concrete driveways and install seed/sod for northbound FM 720 lanes.

FM 455 – From west of FM 2450 to east of Marion Road, 30 percent plans are expected in early May. Illumination throughout the corridor is under discussion.

Mayhill Road – From north of Quail Creek Road to U.S. 380, old poles have been removed. Additional utility relocated needed at the U.S. 380 intersection are underway.

I-35E/Loop 288/Brinker/Mayhill – A new southbound exit ramp opened on April 9. Crews are constructing retaining walls and an entrance ramp as well as handling Brinker bridge drill shafts, Loop 288 drill shafts and the southbound main lane embankment.

Union Hill/ FM 455/ FM 2164 Realignment Project - For May, the focus will be on vegetation.

U.S. 380 East - (Loop 288 to U.S. 377) The TxDOT design team is working on 95 percent plans with an estimated timeline for submittal of May 2019. (U.S. 377 to county line) The consultant continues to work on the 95 percent plans. The estimated timeline for submittal is July 2019.

U.S. 380 Feasibility Study - Following public meetings in January, a second public meeting will be scheduled this summer.

County road and bridge updates

U.S. 377/Stewart/Arvin Hill Intersection Improvements 

TxDOT is reviewing 60 percent plans for the intersection improvements. The county is revisiting signalization with TxDOT. TxDOT has approved an access permit for the realignment of Arvin Hill.

Sam Bass Road Project - FM 455 North of Nance Road 

Design plans at 95 percent – project waiting on TXDOT to acquire ROW.  

Lake Sharon extension  

Wildstone continues to finish remaining utility work. They have laid all major storm drain boxes. Headwalls and backfill are to continue.
