Lake Dallas Softball's Shelby Nelson

Lake Dallas sophomore Shelby Nelson was the only Lady Falcon named to the District 8-5A all-district first team this season.

Though the Lady Falcons didn’t meet expectations as a group on the softball diamond this season, several standouts were named to the first District 8-5A all-district list.

Sophomore Shelby Nelson led the way for Lake Dallas, earning the club’s only first-team award for her work in her rookie campaign as a Lady Falcon. Nelson hit .314, driving in eight runs and scoring eight herself in a slow year for the program, offensively.

Fellow sophomore Allie Buchanan was named to the league’s second team for her own inaugural performance, which saw her hit .244 with one double, one triple and a lone home run. She also had seven RBIs.

Joining Buchanan on the second team was now-alum Aubrey Meyers, who was a key cog for the program for much of her Lake Dallas career. This spring, she hit .294 and slugged .490, racking up seven doubles and a lone homer on her way to driving in seven.

Finally, seniors Kennedy Dugan and Morgan Burgess were named honorable mention award-winners. Dugan hit .458 in limited action, scoring eight runs, while Burgess played just nine games but hit .333 with a pair of runs scored.

In addition, each member of the 2019 Lake Dallas squad was named to the academic all-district list.

State-tournament participant The Colony recorded five superlatives for its outstanding 2019, including Co-MVP Jayda Coleman, Pitcher of the Year Karlie Charles, Catcher of the Year Jacee Hamlin, Co-Utility Player of the Year Olivia Wick and Coach of the Year Deana Coleman.

No other school had more than one, as Little Elm senior Lauren Lucas shared MVP honors with Coleman, Denton’s Kaylin Jackson took home Offensive Player of the Year, Denton Ryan’s Abby Buettner earned Defensive Player of the Year, Ashanti Mcdade of Denton collected Newcomer of the Year and Little Elm’s Izzi Fielder split Utility Player of the Year with Wick.
