McKinney ISD school spirit was on full display in the halls and auditorium of McKinney High School Wednesday morning for the McKinney Chamber of Commerce 2022 MISD New Teacher Breakfast.
During the event, new McKinney ISD teachers were able to visit with vendor booths from local businesses and organizations before the official event started at 9 a.m.
After performances by the McKinney High School dance team, cheerleaders, MCJROTC and drumline, Amy Dankel, President of the McKinney Board of Trustees, addressed the new teachers and talked about her love of football — and being a part of a team. And that's how she views the teachers, staff and leaders of McKinney ISD: one big team to lead education for the student body and community.
"I love here in the late 1990s, and I taught in three other states and four other school districts, and I never did I experience anything like this team mentality (here at McKinney ISD)," Dankel said. "Once you see the (team mentality) in practice, you see its value. You are not alone. You have a team. I ask that you look to your teammates for guidance and help, and look to your teammates on who you can support.
"Even the school board, we are called the 'team of eight,' and that's the seven elected officials and the superintendent, and the idea is that the eight of us have a goal to have academic excellence in every classroom, everyday for every student and child in McKinney. Our other big goal is safety."
Lisa Hermes, president and CEO of the McKinney Chamber of Commerce, reminded the new teachers to the district that the work they will be doing to impact the lives of McKinney ISD students will also have an impact on the future of the city.
"As a business community, we know the value of what you do because (the students) are our future workforce," Hermes said. "Thank you, thank you, thank you, we are so pleased you are here at McKinney ISD."
School starts for all McKinney ISD students on Wednesday, Aug. 10.
