Check out more than 60 photos from the final round of the Byron Nelson at TPC Craig Ranch in McKinney from the McKinney Courier-Gazette and Star Local Media, as Jason Day won his first PGA tour event in five years Sunday, shooting 9-under 62 for a one-shot victory over Austin Eckroat and Si Woo Kim.
Day had been winless in 105 starts since the 2018 Wells Fargo Championship.
The day was off to a slow start, and Day found himself tied with hometown favorite Scottie Scheffler at 20 under. But then, at the par-4 12th, Day made a brilliant chip-in for birdie, breaking the tie and taking his first outright lead of the day.
The rain came down in sheets as Day battled his way through the final holes. But he held strong, finishing 23 under and ending his victory drought just in time for the PGA Championship the following week.
Day's first career PGA Tour victory had come at the 2010 Byron Nelson, and he couldn't help but feel a sense of nostalgia as he hoisted the trophy once again.
C.T. Pan gave Day a run for his money, finishing at 21-under 263 with two eagles on the back nine in a career-low 62. Pan's incredible play was no match for Day, though, who held strong and finished just ahead of him.
Scheffler finished at 20 under with a final-round 65, after a par on 18 where a day earlier his second shot had hit the lip of a fairway bunker and stayed in it on the way to a bogey.Â
