Mesquite community members, members of city council and staff gathered at the Mesquite Elks Lodge Monday evening to celebrate the citizen, police officer and firefighter of the year as well as the work done by the city's many departments.Â

Mike Gibson earned the Citizen of the Year award for his involvement in several organizations throughout the Mesquite community.Â

Robert Keith received the Officer of the Year award for his extensive work in the DWI unit of the department, helping keep drivers safe in Mesquite.Â

Lane Powell received the Firefighter of the Year award for his dedication to keeping residents safe.Â

Members of Historic Mesquite, the Mesquite Public Library, the City Manager's office, the Police and Fire Departments, Sharing Life Community Outreach and more received grant funding from the Elks Lodge to help continue improving the community.Â
