The Mesquite Police Department (MPD) graduated five recruits from its Basic Police Officer Course (BPOC) class on April 26. Less than four percent of the law enforcement agencies in Texas have a training academy. The Mesquite Police Department has graduated 76 recruits from its BPOC since the training academy began in 2013.
“Today we welcome five new members to the Mesquite Police Department,” said Police Chief Charles Cato. “I look forward to seeing them continue into field training and serving the citizens of Mesquite.”
The graduates are Zachary L. McCalley – Scurry, Texas; Preston M. Moehring – Rockwall, Texas; Deontae J. Wright – Grand Prairie, Texas; Austin H. Kovalcik – Mesquite, Texas; and Jarret D. Moline – Quitman, Texas.
The five new police officers completed 25 weeks of the BPOC program. They will now begin a 17-week field training program. Upon successful completion of the field training program the police officers will be assigned to patrol duties.
