During Monday night’s Mesquite City Council pre-meeting, the council received a briefing to provide direction regarding the potential exchange of city-owned property with Mesquite Independent School District located at 1717 McKenzie Road and 4200 Faithon P. Lucas Sr. Blvd. (formerly Mercury Road).
City Manager Cliff Keheley said that during the design of MISD’s Choice High School it was determined that the shape of the lot needed to be adjusted in order to accommodate the driveway that impacts Faithon P. Lucas.
“They’re basically needing an acre and half between their property and the girls softball complex,” Keheley said. “They would remove an acre and a half from their parcel and return that back to park. It’s adjacent to city land anyway.”
He added that it is to put some distance between the two driveways, and the exit-only drive would go to the four-lane section of Faithon P. Lucas, allowing for a safer transition.
Keheley also noted that this exchange would be a benefit to the city because it would allow a second driveway access out of the softball complex.
The council did not express any objections to this proposed exchange.
