North Mesquite notched its first district victory of the season with a 47-37 win over Mesquite on Tuesday.

After taking some time away from the district slate for the Christmas holidays, the 10-6A season resumed on Tuesday and it was a successful return for North Mesquite, which notched its first district victory with a 47-37 win over crosstown rival Mesquite.

It was the Skeeters (0-2) that looked like they would even their district record early on, as they built a 24-17 halftime lead.

But the Stallions (1-1) came out of the locker room with a purpose, using a 15-2 run to take the lead and they were able to pull away down the stretch.

Cordale Russell paced North Mesquite with 16 points, with Dalan Hicks adding eight and Tamorrian Grigsby chipping in with six. Mesquite got 13 points from Josh Williams and 10 from Donovan Willis.

Horn moved to 2-0 with a 62-40 victory over Tyler Legacy. The Jaguars got off to a good start, using a 16-7 run to take the lead.

The Raiders made a push in the second quarter to get back to within six, but Horn pushed the advantage back to 12 at the end of three quarters and outscored them 22-12 in the fourth.

Horn is joined at 2-0 by Rockwall, who notched a 55-48 victory over Skyline.

In somewhat of an oddity, the Raiders actually outscored the Yellowjackets in three of the four quarters, but the exception was the second period, when Rockwall used a dominating 21-2 run to make the difference in the game.

Kaden Shelburne paced Rockwall with 22 points, Brennan Ray had 10 and David Chang added eight.

With Rockwall on a bye on Friday, Horn has a chance to move into sole possession of first place when it hosts Skyline. North Mesquite will look to build off its first district win with a home game against Tyler Legacy and Mesquite is on the road at Rockwall-Heath.
