Poteet softball web 3-2 KK

Poteet has had an up and down start but is still one of the favorites to win the 10-4A championship.

Poteet continued its preparation for the 10-4A season with a busy slate of games at the Wylie ISD Tournament on Thursday through Saturday.

The Pirates (7-10) continued to experience some highs and some lows at this point in the year, as they split their six games at the event.

Poteet got started on the right foot on Thursday with a 10-5 win over Princeton. Cassie Vasquez got the win on the mound and got plenty of support from an offense that belted out 15 hits.

Aubree Turbeville was 4-for-4 with three doubles, a home run and four RBIs, Selena Mendoza had a double and triple, while Amy Krause and Peyton Winkfein each added three hits.

Winkfein went 4-for-4 with three runs batted in but it was not enough later on Thursday in a 12-8 loss to Wylie.

Poteet's bats actually went quiet in a 9-1 loss to Midland Lee on Friday but roared back to life in a 14-3 rout of Grand Prairie. Madison Sadler struck out nine in five innings Mendoza had four hits and three RBIs.

On the final day of the tournament, Vasquez went the distance on the mound and had three hits at the plate in a 12-5 win over Sherman. Shelby Wilson had four hits and drove in six runs, while Mendoza, Turbeville and Jordyn Graham each added three hits.

West Mesquite had a less than memorable time at the Frisco ISD Tournament as they did not score a run in losses to Denton Guyer (10-0), Frisco Liberty (6-0) and Frisco Centennial (17-0).

The Wranglers will meet Poteet in 10-4A action on Tuesday.
