Horn senior Shea Ellis was named to the 11-6A second team. It was the second consecutive season Ellis was honored on the list.

The 11-6A baseball terrain once again proved to be a tough one to navigate with the likes of Rockwall-Heath and Rockwall battling it out at the top.

Those two teams earned the lion’s share of the major honors on the all-district team, but each of the seven teams claimed their share of representation, as well.

Horn, who returned to the playoffs after placing fourth, had six players recognized, Mesquite had four selections and North Mesquite had a pair of honorees.

The Jaguars landed two players on the first team in outfielder Brayon Monroe and infielder Jesse Pineda.

Monroe ranked among the area leaders with a .427 batting average and a .513 on-base percentage from his leadoff spot. He recorded 41 hits, 11 RBIs and 12 stolen bases. Pineda was another key cog in the lineup, hitting .305 with 18 hits and a .394 on-base percentage.

Horn had four additional second-team honorees in pitcher Luke Guerra (4-4, 2.70 ERA, 41 strikeouts in 64.2 IP), utility player Shea Ellis (.297, .385 OBP, 27 hits, 13 RBIs) infielder Jason Kondikoff (.345, .441 OBP, 30 hits, 14 RBIs) and outfielder Josh Edling (.291, 16 hits, 7 RBIs).

The Skeeters were led by outfielder JaQuan Darensburg, who was their lone first-team selection. Darensburg, who also pitched at times, hit .266 with 17 runs and 19 stolen bases.

Mesquite had three more players voted to the second team.

Infielder Craig Mattil posted a .359 batting average with 15 runs, 17 stolen bases, 21 RBIs and 10 extra-base hits.

Infielder Xavier Cardenas hit .323 with eight runs batted in, nine runs scored and 15 stolen bases, while outfielder Andre Davis hit .293 with a .494 on-base percentage with 11 stolen bases and 15 runs.

North Mesquite senior Tyler Seder was the lone Stallion chosen for the first team. Seder, who was also one of the team’s leading hitters, posted a 2.91 earned run average with 37 strikeouts and only six walks in 51.2 innings.

The other North Mesquite honoree was outfielder Brandon Thomas, who hit .276 on his way to making the second team.

District champion Rockwall-Heath earned five superlative awards, headlined by most valuable player Miller Ladusau. Kevin Bazzell was voted as the defensive player of the year, Rece Gustafson was recognized as the pitcher of the year, Jett Williams was pegged as the underclassman of the year and Greg Havey earned coach of the year honors.

Rockwall’s Zach Henry was chosen as the offensive most valuable player and Tyler Lee’s Tyler Hittle nabbed the newcomer of the year award.
