There was one point on Friday where Poteet found itself trailing Wylie East.
It did not last long.
The Pirates overtook the Raiders late in the first quarter and never looked back on their way to a 51-10 victory at Wylie ISD Stadium.
Poteet runs its winning streak to four in a row, improving to 4-3 overall and 3-0 in 7-5A Division I, while Wylie East falls to 2-6 and 0-4.
The Pirates grabbed the early lead on a field goal by Matthew Duarte, but the Raiders countered with a big lay, as Cade Adamson found TJ Washington for a 95-yard touchdown to take a 7-3 advantage.
Poteet answered with four consecutive scores.
Jaylond Police connected with De’Vyon Camps for a 30-yard touchdown pass and Tristan Golightly on a 14-yard scoring strike to take a 17-7 lead.
They then turned to the ground game, with Xzaveon Jeans scoring on a 15-yard run and Seth McGowan breaking free for a 41-yard touchdown as the lead swelled to 31-7.
Wylie East was able to scratch across a field goal as time expired in the first half, but the Pirates pitched a shutout during the final two quarters.
The offense, meanwhile, added insurance in the second half.
Police went back to Golightly for a 20-yard score, McGowan found the end zone from two yards out and Raymond Austin added a 32-yard touchdown run to put the finishing touches on the win.
