Sunnyvale punched its ticket to the state 7on7 tournament for the second consecutive year by winning the Paris state qualifying event on May 18.
The 2019 Texas 7on7 Championships are scheduled for June 27-29 at Veterans Park and Athletic Complex in College Station.
Despite having the berth in hand, the Raiders did not slow down last weekend, as they competed at the Brock state qualifying tournament on Saturday.
The Raiders rolled through Pool A with with lopsided wins over Brock (42-0) and Ponder (45-13) before capping their day with a 41-28 victory over Mineral Wells.
Because Sunnyvale had already secured a spot in College Station, they were not eligible to compete in the qualifying round.
Poteet has stayed busy with tournaments in each of the last two weeks, but it has not resulted in a return to the state event.
The Pirates got off to a strong start on Saturday at the Hurst state qualifying tournament.
Competing in Pool D, Poteet swept its first three games with victories over Rockwall (24-13), Sachse (20-19) and Denton Braswell (45-33).
That earned them a trip to the quarterfinals, but they came up just short in a 33-20 setback at the hands of Lovejoy.
In addition to their narrow loss to the Pirates, the Mustangs had a rough all-around day with setbacks at the hands of Denton Braswell (29-19) and Rockwall (48-33).
There are not many local state qualifiers on the docket in the upcoming weeks, with events in Justin on June 7 and back in Hurst on June 15.
Perhaps the best chance for local teams to punch their ticket will be in one of the final events, as Rowlett will host a 32-team state qualifying tournament with four berths at stake on June 21.
