Plano Fire-Rescue responded to a home in the 4000 block of Barnett Drive just after 4 p.m. Tuesday when callers to 911 reported fire and smoke in the garage of a neighboring home. The home’s two residents had noticed flames coming from the garage and had exited the home.
Arriving fire crews found the home’s two-car garage fully involved in fire with both vehicles in the garage on fire as well. While firefighters fought the fire in the garage, other crews searched the home for fire extension. The fire, which had extended into the home’s kitchen, was quickly extinguished and firefighters retrieved personal items from the home for the residents. There were no injuries.
While still under investigation, the fire is believed to have started in the garage in one of the two vehicles. The home had major fire damage in the garage and moderate damage to the interior. Thirty-one firefighters were utilized to fight the fire, including two fire engines called to the scene due to temperatures in the lower 90s at the time of the fire.
