The Sachse girls closed in on the second seed in the playoffs on Tuesday, while Rowlett took another step toward securing a postseason berth.
The Mustangs (11-2-0, 31 points) rolled to a 7-0 shutout of Garland (1-10-3, 7), getting a variety of different contributions.
Bailey Malone led the way with a pair of goals and an assist, Kate McCallister had a goal and an assist, McKenna Moran, Jobi Phelps, Isabella Savaterre and Raeya Carthon found the back of the net and Clara Dowdle, Cate Templemeyer and Jocelyn Ortiz-Henao set up scores.
The Eagles (8-4-2, 27) took care of business with a 2-0 win over North Garland (3-7-3, 13).
Trinity Blair scored one goal and set up another, K.J. Blair had a goal and Izzy Robertson added an assist, and that would be enough for keepers Sophia Cortez and Becca Ortiz, who combined to record the shutout in goal.
Rowlett moved to within one point of third-place Wylie (9-3-1, 28), who dropped a 3-1 decision to Wylie East (13-0-0, 39), the No. 1 team in the Lethal Enforcer Soccer 6A Region II poll.
In the other match of the night, Naaman Forest (3-9-1, 11) claimed a 3-0 victory over South Garland, getting goals from Brianna Castillo, Americus Taylor and Sam Hernandez and an assist from Andrea Ibarra.
Rowlett can secure a playoff berth on Friday with a win over Lakeview (5-6-2, 19), which is hanging on to its postseason life.
Sachse plays at South Garland, Wylie hosts Naaman Forest and Wylie East is at North Garland.
BOYS
The Sachse and Rowlett boys continued their stretch run on Tuesday with a pair of closely-contested matches.
The Mustangs (8-2-3, 28) closed the gap on second place with Garland (9-2-3, 30) with a shootout victory.
The match was tied at 1-1 at the end of regulation, with Sachse prevailing in penalties to narrow the Owls’ lead on second place to two points.
That is important because the Mustangs still have one extra match to play and pick up points.
The Eagles (5-6-3, 20) and North Garland (5-5-3, 20) also finished in a 1-1 draw, with the Raiders winning the shootout to move into a tie for fifth place.
Carlos Cedillo recorded the lone goal for Rowlett, which now trails fourth-place Wylie (8-5-0, 24) by four points after the Pirates used a pair of goals from Jacob Bouty to claim a 2-0 victory against Wylie East (4-8-1, 13).
Naaman Forest (10-0-3, 36) continued its march toward the district championship with a 4-1 win over South Garland.
The Rangers need just one point in their final three matches to clinch a share of the 9-6A title and two points to win it outright.
On Friday, Rowlett plays Lakeview (1-12-0, 3) in a match where it really needs three points, especially with Wylie having to face Naaman Forest. Sachse hosts South Garland with a chance to move into second place with Garland having a bye and North Garland looks to keep its playoff hopes alive at Wylie East.
