There's no shortage of noteworthy performances turned in by student-athletes around the area. Each week, Star Local Media's sports staff will recognize five student-athletes from their respective coverage areas as part of its 5-Star Spotlight.
Here are a few athletes from sports reporter David Wolman's coverage area who have turned in standout moments over the past week.
Kaelani Rogers, Creekview softball
Rogers hit two home runs and drove in four runs as the Lady Mustangs went 2-0 last week with a 15-0 win over R.L. Turner and an 8-5 come-from-behind victory against The Colony. With the two wins, Creekview improved to 5-5 in District 9-5A and is one game behind The Colony and Frisco Reedy for third place.
Noah Thorn, Lewisville baseball
After being outscored by Flower Mound 22-1 in a two-game series two weeks ago, Lewisville bounced back in a big way on Tuesday with a 5-4 come-from-behind victory against Marcus. Thorn tossed three scoreless innings of relief to accompany three strikeouts against just one hit.
Shay Patel, Coppell tennis
Patel went 4-0 to capture first place in boys singles in the District 6-6A tennis tournament. After winning each of his first three matches in straight sets, Patel defeated Hebron’s Shivam Udani in three sets in the first-place match. Patel qualified for the Region I-6A meet, which was held Tuesday-Wednesday in McKinney.
Wesley Peck, The Colony baseball
One month after Peck threw the first no-hitter for The Colony since 2021, the junior right-hander hurled another gem Tuesday. Peck struck out 10 and yielded just four hits in 6.2 shutout innings, lifting the Cougars to a 4-0 victory against Frisco Wakeland. The Colony improved to 5-3 in District 9-5A.
Zack James, Flower Mound baseball
James threw another gem for District 6-6A leader Flower Mound in a 1-0 victory against red-hot Coppell on Tuesday. The TCU commit threw seven shutout innings with nine strikeouts against two hits. The Jaguars have outscored their district opponents 66-9 with five shutout victories.
