There's no shortage of noteworthy performances turned in by student-athletes around the area. Each week, Star Local Media's sports staff will recognize five student-athletes from their respective coverage areas as part of its 5-Star Spotlight.
Here are a few athletes from sports editor Matt Welch's coverage area who have turned in standout moments over the past week.
Sidney Green, Allen track and field
The state's premier 300-meter hurdler closed out her high school career atop the podium during Saturday's Class 6A state meet. Green captured her first-ever gold medal at state, clocking a 41.08 in the 300s to complete a postseason sweep in her signature hurdle race.

Abby Van Volkenburgh, John Paul II softball
Van Volkenburgh helped lead the Lady Cardinals to a TAPPS Division I state championship on Tuesday. The catcher came up big at the plate by going 3-of-5 on the afternoon with a double, three RBIs and two runs in an 11-10 victory over San Antonio Antonian, earning an all-tournament spot as well.
Jax Marshall, McKinney Christian baseball
Marshall sparked a seventh-inning rally by the Mustangs in Monday's TAPPS Division III state semifinal against Lake Country Christian, blasting a two-run double to give his team the lead in an eventual 4-2 win. Marshall added two hits and three runs in Tuesday's state final, earning an all-tournament selection for the Div. III runners-up.

Lauren Lewis, Prosper track and field
Lewis exited Saturday's Class 6A state meet with two gold medals and a new state meet record. The state record-holder in the 400-meter dash, Lewis set a new personal-best time in the race on Saturday by running a 51.45. In addition to taking down a meet record in the 400, Lewis doubled up on her medal count not long after by winning the 200 with a time of 23.43.

Sasha Harber, McKinney North track and field

Harber closed out her decorated high school career in record-breaking fashion during Friday's 5A state meet. She won her third consecutive state championship in the pole vault and set a 5A state meet record in the process, clearing a personal-best 13-9.25. Harber later added a bronze medal in the 100 hurdles, clocking a 14.13.
