In response to inquiries regarding quarterback Kade Renfro, Arkansas Athletics announced Thursday evening that he is no longer with the football team.
Renfro’s dismissal from the team comes nearly 24 hours after an anonymous social media account was created, posting dozens of allegations over the course of a day about Renfro sexually harassing and sexually assaulting multiple people. The posts show pictures of multiple women with visible bruising and screenshots of Renfro’s encounters with women and lewd or threatening Snapchats. There is also a screenshot of a message from Renfro’s mother messaging the account.
There is a planned peaceful protest “for the 28+ women abused by Kade Renfro” planned for Friday afternoon outside of Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium. The account’s owner declined to comment when contacted by Sports Illustrated. Renfro could not be reached for comment.
A statement from the university read, “After being made aware of the allegations, we notified the relevant offices on our campus. Due to FERPA student privacy regulations, we are unable to provide more information at this time.” A school spokesperson confirmed that, as of Thursday evening, “a student by the name of Kade Renfro is enrolled at the university at this time.”
The Fayetteville and University of Arkansas police departments told Best of Arkansas Sports they have no record of reports or complaints filed, and the UAPD told BOAS, “the information shared on social media is the first and only information we’ve heard.”
“Upon gaining knowledge of the allegations against a student-athlete earlier this week, we immediately informed the University’s Title IX office of the allegations,” a university statement read. “The student-athlete is no longer a member of the football team.”
Renfro played football in his hometown at Stephenville High, a program that rose to prominence in Texas under Art Briles in the 1990s. Renfro was offered a scholarship by Briles’s son, Kendal, while he was at Florida State in 2019. The following season, Briles went to Arkansas after the FSU coaching staff was fired, and Renfro ended up signing with Ole Miss where Kendal’s brother-in-law, Jeff Lebby, was offensive coordinator. After one season with the Rebels, Renfro transferred to Arkansas, where he has been on the roster for the past two seasons, although an injury sidelined him in 2022.
