Oncor will continue trimming trees away from the power lines along Old Settlers, Cross Timbers and McKamy Creek roads.
Other areas Oncor has targeted for trimming include Wichita Trail as well as portions of Hide-A-Way Lane, Peninsula Drive, Quail Run and Beckworth Drive. Crews have already trimmed the trees in the Morriss and Cross Timbers Road area since starting earlier this week. An arborist is part of the crew trimming trees to ensure the trees are being cut properly.
Electric utilities strive to provide safe and reliable service, making it necessary to manage trees near power lines and Oncor has the legal right to maintain its equipment. This includes entering private property to trim trees. By Texas law, only professionals who are authorized by the wires companies are allowed to prune or remove trees closer than 6 feet to high voltage power lines. Always call your wires companies for assistance.
Here are some quick facts about why Oncor conducts periodic tree trimming:
・   Oncor typically trims the trees away from the power lines once every five years. It has been seven years since crews were in Flower Mound.
・   Oncor has identified specific areas in Flower Mound that have caused occasional power interruptions to hundreds of customers due to vegetation and/or wildlife and is targeting these areas.
・   If the trees on your property have been identified as needing a trim, Oncor will place a neon green informational door hanger on your front door, which includes Oncor contact information.
The town has an authorized list of trees that are acceptable to plant near or under utility lines. To obtain this list, email customerrelations@flower-mound.com.
