Jeff Mew loves Elvis Presley, so much so that he travels around the region performing Elvis tribute shows. He will be performing at 2 p.m. June 29 at the Flower Mound Public Library, 3030 Broadmoor Lane. Below, Mew talks about what his tribute shows entail and what he loves most about them.
Where did you grow up and go to school?
I grew up in Killeen, Texas and graduated Killeen High School.
What do you do for a living?
I’m retired from serving in the field of durable medical goods or home health.
Where do you live now?
Currently live in Benbrook, located southwest of Fort Worth.
How did you become interested in being an Elvis tribute artist?
Elvis’s gospel music touched my heart, and I enjoy sharing his music with others.
What is your favorite Elvis song?
“You Gave Me A Mountain.” That changes daily! Too many greats!
What is your favorite part of being an Elvis Tribute Artist?
Meeting great people, performing with a live band and touching lives through Elvis’s music.
What does a typical show include?
Paying tribute to the greatest entertainer of our time and usually performing a variety of Elvis’s hits.
Where all do you travel for the shows?
Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana and national competitions such as Elvis Week in Memphis, and Elvis Expo’s.
Have you performed in Flower Mound before?
Yes, the library and at other senior living facilities around the area.
Is there a response from a fan that you'll always remember after a performance?
Many, but one in particular was from a double amputee at the veterans hospital who tearfully stated he saw his father, who was an original member of the Jordanaires, sitting in a chair beside me that I had un-purposely brought on stage while singing “How Great Thou Art.” Still gives me chills.
What all do you have to purchase to be an Elvis Tribute Artist?
All of Elvis’s music and video, sound equipment, hundreds of music tracks, scarves, teddy bears, complete wardrobe & props. (Still working on the pink Cadillac).
Have you been to Graceland?
Yes! Many times.
What else do you like to do in your free time?
Listen and learn more of Elvis music. I enjoy being retired, being a grandpa, yard work and cruise vacations.
